Norton AntiVirus 2012

Norton AntiVirus 2012 protects computers from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, botnets, rootkits, and spyware. The program scans existing files and all incoming and outgoing data without interrupting the user. It blocks new threats from installing themselves even before their specific signatures have been identified. A bootable recovery tool creates an emergency disc or flash-memory drive that lets users start and repair badly infected computers.

Other capabilities of this product include:

• SONAR Behavioral Protection monitors applications for unusual activities.
• Norton Insight scans all files not identified as trusted by Symantec and the Norton community.
• Download Insight warns of dangerous downloads before they are installed.
• File Insight tells where files came from, whether they are trusted, and how they affect performance.
• System Insight gives an overview of PC events and their impact on performance and resource usage.

New in 2012

The 2012 version includes a streamlined interface for running updates and scans and metered-bandwidth options to suit the abilities of connected mobile devices.

Licensing

This donation includes a one-year subscription for use of the product, protection updates, and new product features for one computer. The product will cease to function entirely after one year unless the subscription is renewed.

Retail Version

This product is identical to the version sold through the Symantec website and includes the standard support, renewal, and upgrade options available with retail products.

• Donated product will be distributed under this program to qualifying organizations only, not to individuals.
• Two Symantec Norton products and two Symantec Enterprise products may be requested within a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).
• Up to 100 licenses may be requested for each product except Backup Exec products, for which 1 license may be requested.
• Eligible organizations must have an annual operating budget of less than $10 million.
• This donation is available to nonprofits with 501(c)(3) designation and to public libraries. Public libraries must either have valid 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or be listed in the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) database.
• This donation will not be made available to some student groups or academic organizations, employee or membership benefit organizations, some social or recreational clubs, Boy Scouts, organizations that support political parties or candidates, advocacy groups, or faith-based organizations whose primary mission is religious (see Serving Faith-Based Organizations with Technology Donations).
• Organizations that advocate, support, or practice discrimination based on age, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability, race, size, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background are not eligible to participate in this program. Organizations must be willing and able to attest that they do not discriminate on any of these grounds in order to receive donations.
