Description

Adobe Audition CS5.5 is a professional audio production application. Sound designers, musicians, and audio engineers use Audition to create music, record and mix projects, produce radio spots, clean up audio for a movie, and compile and edit soundtracks.

With Audition's tool-based interface, users can produce high-resolution 24- or 32-bit files with sample rates up to 192 kHz for HD- and DVD-quality audio. The software includes access to thousands of royalty-free sound effects, loops, and music beds, in addition to VSTi virtual instrument support, giving users a variety of options when arranging music.

Users can mix files together with multitrack editing and also edit grouped clips together. Audition's editing and mastering tools allow users to zoom into and edit the beginning or ending of an audio file.

Certain Audition 3.0 features have been replaced or not implemented in Audition CS5.5.

Other capabilities include the following:

  • Audio from video produced in Premiere Pro can be mixed and edited directly in Audition.
  • Users can remove or edit specific sounds or certain frequencies or use Adaptive Noise Reduction to remove unwanted noise that changes over time.
  • With the Spectral Display, users can visually isolate and select sounds in frequency and time and then clean up, modify, or apply effects to the selected sound with visual polishing tools like Spot Healing Brush. The Spectral Bitmap import/export option allows users to edit audio in Photoshop.
  • The Guitar Suite provides analog-modeled guitar effects that can be used with guitars or other instruments. Users can apply one effect or stack many together.
  • Waveform editing tools allow users to view an audio clip's visual waveform and add fades with click-and-drag handles. Users can select a section of the waveform and turn the volume knob to adjust sound levels on individual portions of an audio clip.
  • The software supports more than 25 file formats and variations, including Windows PCM (WAV), OGG, AIFF, and MP3. Users can edit soundtracks for video and then export the enhanced video in AVI, MPEG, DV, or MOV format.
